State Board of Physical Therapy

The State Board of Physical Therapy regulates the practice of physical therapy in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.  It is the Board’s duty to pass upon the qualifications of applicants for licensure as physical therapists and registration as physical therapist assistants.  Among its other functions, the Board issues, renews, suspends and revokes licenses and registrations.

RENEWAL PERIOD EXTENDED

Please be advised that the renewal deadline for the State Board of Medicine, State Board of Osteopathic Medicine, State Board of Physical Therapy, and State Board of Podiatry is extended until January 3, 2017 due to the holiday weekend.  You can renew your license online at https://www.mylicense.pa.gov.

Since the implementation of Act 31 of 2014, you are now required to complete two hours of Board-Approved Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Continuing Education (Child Abuse CE) before your license can be renewed.  Licenses will only be renewed once the required Child Abuse CE is received directly and electronically from the provider.   As noted on the DOS website, while the Department's online renewal system processes renewals within 24 hours, please be advised that the Continuing Education approved providers transmit their CE results electronically to the Department at various times thus impacting how quickly a license can be renewed.  A license will not be renewed unless the Department receives proof, submitted directly and electronically from the provider, of the required continuing education.  This process can take up to seven days. If your license is close to expiration, we recommend that you check with the approved provider of your course to confirm the time-frame in which they plan to submit the results. If you have questions regarding the submission of the continuing education, please contact the approved provider directly before contacting the Board.
