Director, Office of Communications and Press

Wanda Murren

Wanda Murren was appointed Director for the Department on October 16, 2017. Most recently, she had been serving as the Department's Press Secretary since March 2, 2015. 

Wanda serves as the Department's liaison to the Governor's Office of Communications. As liaison, she is responsible for coordinating and disseminating communications strategies that require integration between the Governor's Office of Communications and Press and the Department.

She provides support to the Secretary of State serving as a special advisor, and as liaison with organizations, stakeholders, media, and government offices to ensure seamless support to the secretary as well as the appointed executive management team. She manages Department of State special projects, and serves as the contact for key local and national partnerships.

Wanda is a professional journalist with 30 years of experience as a leader in the newsroom.  She started her career as a Staff Reporter with The Evening Sun in Hanover, York County.  She rose through the ranks in various leadership positions, including News Editor, Opinion Page Editor, Managing Editor and Chair of the Editorial Board.  Prior to joining the Department, she worked in the broadcast business as the senior administrator at 98.5 The Peak, home of York’s Classic Hits, and Real Country WHVR-AM.

She is the recipient of seven (7) Pennsylvania Newspaper Association’s Keystone Press Awards and two (2) Pennsylvania Associated Press Managing Editors Awards.

Wanda resides in York County with her husband Darrell Crabbs Sr.
